SUMMARY:Improving Support and Recognition for Research Software Personnel
 - the International Landscape
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nImproving Support and Recognition for Researc
 h Software Personnel - the International Landscape\n\nLamprecht, Barker\n\
nSoftware is vital for today’s research in all scholarly disciplines. To m
eet scholarly standards and produce robust results, it needs to be of high
quality, which includes, e.g., being correct, scalable, usable, and susta
inable. Hence, research software personnel, i.e., people who create and ma
intain research software professionally, is vital and needs adequate suppo
rt and recognition for their work. This is, however, not a given in the cu
rrent academic landscape. Different countries, communities, and organizati
ons have started to approach this challenge in various ways. This talk sur
veys the international landscape of models to providing support and recogn
ition for research software personnel. We present and discuss selected exa
mples, and highlight known success factors and obstacles.\n\nDomain: Compu
