SUMMARY:Investigation of IFS Microphysics Parameterisation on FPGA
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nInvestigation of IFS Microphysics Parameteris
ation on FPGA\n\nReuter, Lange, Marsden\n\nThe cloud microphysics paramete
risation from the IFS weather prediction suite was ported to FPGA during t
he EuroEXA project. This large Fortran-based kernel was ported to the Max5
dataflow engine and implemented in the Java-based Maxeler MaxJ language.
Performance and energy efficiency of the resulting port are compared to th
ose obtained on other computational architectures. Difficulties associated
with such a porting and an approach to automation for porting IFS Fortran
kernels to MaxJ, are discussed.\n\nDomain: Chemistry and Materials, Clima
te, Weather and Earth Sciences, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics
