SUMMARY:High Performance Scientific Computing with Reconfigurable Hardware
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nHigh Performance Scientific Computing with Re
configurable Hardware\n\nDykes, Lazzaro\n\nAs we enter the Exascale era, h
igh performance computing systems have proven to rely on increasingly hete
rogeneous resources to maximise performance per watt. Reconfigurable hardw
are is a promising route to energy-efficient performance; however, such ha
rdware has not widely been adopted for scientific computing primarily due
to a combination of appropriate device availability, low level hardware-fo
cused programming models, and difficulties optimising and deploying scient
ific software on reconfigurable devices. This talk will discuss the role o
f reconfigurable logic devices in current and upcoming HPC system architec
tures and the challenges and opportunities of such devices for scientific
software development. On-going work in the HPE EMEA HPC/AI Research Lab on
high performance scientific programming for FPGAs will be presented in th
e context of performance portability, programmability, and heterogeneous m
emory management.\n\nDomain: Chemistry and Materials, Climate, Weather and
Earth Sciences, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics
