SUMMARY:What can be Learned from Lattice QCD at Exascale: can We Reuse and
  Recycle not Reinvent Ideas?
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nWhat can be Learned from Lattice QCD at Exasc
ale: can We Reuse and Recycle not Reinvent Ideas?\n\nRyan\n\nIn this panel
discussion we will explore how scientific computing which is motivated by
open questions in fundamental particle physics has led to computing solut
ions at exascale that are relevant and timely for many HPC application dom
ains. Lattice quantum chromodynamics (QCD) demands leadership class comput
ing resources and in turn has been an early adopter of novel architectures
and developed algorithms including hybrid Monte Carlo with wide impact ac
ross domains. The panel will explore how current work to develop, port and
optimize QCD codes and workflows will impact scientific computing at exas
cale. The bottlenecks and requirements will be discussed with reference to
current and expected heterogeneous exascale computing architectures. The
role of new computing paradigms, including new ideas in machine learning w
ill also be discussed. The panelists include discipline experts and scient
ific computing experts from Nvidia and IBM - both of which have a track re
cord of collaborating with the lattice QCD community and can offer a persp
ective on the significance of the field for HPC in general. A guided discu
ssion together with audience Q&A is anticipated and will make for a stimul
 ating and fruitful session.\n\nDomain: Physics
