SUMMARY:New Fundamental Physics at the Exascale
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nNew Fundamental Physics at the Exascale\n\nDe
l Debbio\n\nThe fundamental forces of Nature are described with remarkable
accuracy by the so-called Standard Model of particle physics, which combi
nes elegantly quantum mechanics and special relativity. A staggering range
of experimental results are expalined in terms of a few fundamental const
ituents and their interactions, which are strongly dictated by symmetry ar
guments. The formulation of relativistic quantum mechanical theories on a
discretized space-time lattice introduced almost 50 years ago by Ken Wilso
n has started a vibrant research field building on Monte Carlo simulations
, which has often driven advances in computational methods. The forthcomin
g Exascale architectures will allow an unprecedented boost in precision st
udies of the Standard Model and in the exploration of new theories beyond
the Standard Model. In order to maximise the benefits from the new hardwar
e, new strategic developments are needed. In this talk I will review some
of the opportunities and the challenges for the near future.\n\nDomain: Ph
