SUMMARY:Challenges and Opportunities in Data Handling and the Application
of Artificial Intelligence for the World Meteorological Organisation Commu
 nity
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nChallenges and Opportunities in Data Handling
and the Application of Artificial Intelligence for the World Meteorologic
al Organisation Community\n\nHines\n\nThe environmental modelling communit
y faces new opportunities through a combination of increased computing pow
er, and the potential for application of artificial intelligence to open u
p new progress. However, these opportunities come with the associated chal
lenges of increasing data volumes and the need to navigate the rapid devel
opment in the application of artificial intelligence. In the context of th
e provision of products and services by World Meteorological Organisation
(WMO) members, these areas have the potential to enhance outputs, but may
lead to disruption and transformational change to workflows and production
chains. Hence there is an imperative for the WMO community to understand
the opportunities and challenges, and to share insight and experience to s
upport the community in responding. This talk provides an overview of the
status, opportunities and challenges of data handling and application of A
I in the environmental modelling field, with recommendations for actions f
or WMO to support the community in its response.\n\nDomain: Climate, Weath
er and Earth Sciences, Computer Science and Applied Mathematics
