SUMMARY:Modelling Three-Dimensional Cell Aggregates with Interacting Activ
 e Surfaces
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nModelling Three-Dimensional Cell Aggregates w
ith Interacting Active Surfaces\n\nSalbreux, Torres-Sanchez\n\nIn this pre
sentation I will introduce a modelling and simulation framework for cell a
ggregates in three dimensions based on interacting active surfaces. Cell m
echanics is captured by a physical description of the acto-myosin cortex,
represented as an active surface, that includes cortical flows, viscous fo
rces, active tensions, and bending moments. Cells interact with each other
via short-range forces capturing the effect of adhesion molecules. A fini
te element method, and a hybrid MPI-OpenMP parallel implementation in C++,
are used to solve the continuum equations. I will discuss examples of app
lication of this framework to simulations involving small and medium-sized
aggregates and possible extensions of the model.\n\nDomain: Computer Scie
