SUMMARY:Tools and Mechanisms to Deal with Fine-Grained Computations
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nTools and Mechanisms to Deal with Fine-Graine
d Computations\n\nGarcia-Gasulla\n\nWhich tools and mechanisms can HPC app
lication developers use to deal with fine-grained computation? In the curr
ent context of HPC systems growing in size and computational power, HPC ap
plications must deal with the challenge of using them efficiently. The com
puting units are becoming more powerful and faster. Thus, one of the main
challenges for applications running on future HPC systems will be to manag
e fine-grained computational tasks. Different performance bottlenecks can
arise when dealing with fine-grained tasks, such as communication efficien
cy, load imbalance, or adequate task scheduling.<br />We will try to answe
r this question by showcasing some practical examples in this talk. We wil
l show different applications dealing with fine-grained tasks or computati
ons and how using some tools or techniques can alleviate the impact on the
performance.\n\nDomain: Chemistry and Materials, Computer Science and App
