DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nIncluding Women and Girls in Computer Science
: What are the Challenges and What is Working in Latin America?\n\nAbreu\n
\nIncluding women and girls in computer science: what are the challeng
es and what is working in Latin America?

The growing body
of work on girls and computing show that the digital skills gender gap is
growing despite global efforts to include women and girls. This is true in
relation to the general use of ICTs, but also in more advanced research a
reas such as mathematics and computing, where programming is seen very muc
h as a male domain. The picture, however, is complex. There are large regi
onal variations and interpreting the gaps requires careful and contextuali
zed analysis. This paper will discuss some recent experiences in Latin Ame
rica trying to overcome this gap and show how they focus on issues of acce
ss, skills and leadership.\n\nDomain: Computer Science and Applied Mathema
