SUMMARY:XSEDE’s (Extreme Science and Engineering Discovery Environment) 36
 0 Degree Approach to DEI
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nXSEDE’s (Extreme Science and Engineering Disc
overy Environment) 360 Degree Approach to DEI\n\nAkli\n\nExtreme Science a
nd Engineering Discovery Environment (XSEDE) is an NSF-funded cyberinfrast
ructure project responsible for managing advanced computing resources for
the academic research community. Faculty, scientists, IT staff, students,
and administrators use XSEDE-managed resources, participate in training ev
ents, and have access to online education and training materials. XSEDE st
udent programs provide exposure to the use of advanced computing in resear
ch and facilitate the development of computational and data science compet
encies. The XSEDE Broadening Participation Program evolved its practices ov
er time, learning from feedback shared by our training participants, resea
rchers, and staff. Informed by rigorous evaluation and best practices XSED
E has been successful at expanding access to more women and marginalized c
ommunities. XSEDE conducts annual user surveys and staff climate surveys t
o obtain a wholistic understanding of the needs of all stakeholders and in
tentionally includes DEI questions. Externally, the MeToo movement, Black
Lives Matters, and increase in Asian hate crimes during the pandemic empow
ered people to raise their concerns. XSEDE responded with a Code of Conduc
t that allows us to remove offenders from our events and a Terminology Tas
k Force that developed a strategy for improving all our materials. The pro
cesses used in both efforts have positively impacted the project culture.\
