SUMMARY:Autonomous Energy Systems
DESCRIPTION:Minisymposium\n\nAutonomous Energy Systems\n\nKing\n\nControll
able edge devices exist today, and their numbers are rapidly growing. Simi
larly, sensors that provide information about the natural and built enviro
nment are commonplace. Individually, they provide some level of automation
and convenience. However, a clean energy future requires coordinated cont
rol of these technologies and fundamental innovation with state-of-the-art
control theory and sensor fusion that can seamlessly integrate edge devic
es and sensor information to go beyond mere convenience and simultaneously
improve the quality of life, enhance mobility, optimize grid integrated e
fficient buildings, as well as improve the affordability, reliability, and
resiliency of the grid in a sustainable way. We present our envisioned ci
ty of the future as a highly controllable entity, in which a diverse and l
arge number of agents - buildings, vehicles, power generation assets, the
grid, electric vehicle charging, and transportation infrastructure - colle
ctively sense, interact, and respond to their environment in real-time, th
rough cloud and edge computing, to significantly reduce vehicle congestion
, system-level energy use, infrastructure investment, and maximize user’s
wellbeing.\n\nDomain: Climate, Weather and Earth Sciences, Computer Scienc
e and Applied Mathematics, Humanities and Social Sciences, Engineering
