SUMMARY:P49 - Hybrid Parallelization for the Fully Spectral CFD Framework
 QuICC
DESCRIPTION:Poster\n\nP49 - Hybrid Parallelization for the Fully Spectral
CFD Framework QuICC\n\nMarti, Castiglioni, Tolmachev, Ganellari, Jackson\n
\nOur CFD framework QuICC, based on a fully spectral method, has been succ
essfully used for various dynamo simulations in a spherical geometry. It r
uns efficiently on a few thousands of cores using a 2D data distribution b
ased on a distributed memory paradigm (MPI). The implicit treatment of the
Coriolis force is an important feature of QuICC and it is critical to red
uce the time to solution. However, it requires solving large sparse system
s at each time step. In order to better harness the computing power of cur
rent and upcoming HPC systems, which are increasingly based on heterogeneo
us nodes built from multi-core processors and accelerators (GPU), we prese
nt our work on refactoring the framework to introduce a hybrid distributed
and shared memory parallelization (MPI + X). The interplay between the da
ta flow of the sparse direct solver and the spectral transforms needed for
the nonlinear computations requires a careful design of the parallelizati
on. Different strategies will be presented.
