The Congress Center Basel and its facilities enjoy a downtown location, situated directly adjacent to Basel Exhibition Centre. Travel times are short and the historic old town, the shopping areas and the many museums and parks can be reached comfortably on foot or in a few minutes by public transport.

Getting There

  •  Public Transportation

Take tram no. 1 or 2 from the Swiss or French (SBB/SNCF) railway station and you will reach the conference venue in 15 minutes.
Take tram no. 2 or 6 from the German (DB) railway station and you will be at "Messeplatz / Exhibition Square" in 8 minutes.

BaselCard

When they check in, overnight guests will be given a personal BaselCard, which enables them to use the public transportation in the city of Basel and its surroundings (including EuroAirport) free of charge for the entire duration of their stay. It also includes free surfing on the guest WiFi plus a 50% discount on admission to Basel’s museums, Basel Zoo, Theater Basel and much more.



  • Car

The "Messe" exit from the A2 motorway leads directly to the fair and congress ground. There is a multi-storey car park with space for 1'200 vehicles at Exhibition Square. From there follow the signs directing you to the Congress Center Basel.

Welcome to Basel

Basel lies in the middle of Europe, on both banks of the Rhine. The city is the center of the idyllic border triangle of France, Germany and Switzerland – lying between the Swiss Jura, Germany’s Black Forest and the Vosges in Alsace.


The heart of the city beats in Basel’s well-preserved, romantic old town: its narrow streets and hidden squares with more than 180 fountains are just as charming as its many centuries-old buildings and eye-catching sights. Thanks to its many parks, tree-lined avenues and gardens, Basel is a leafy city. These green spaces are great places to walk and linger in the summer months.

How to get to Basel

Located in the heart of Europe, Basel is a major transportation hub.

  • Airplane

Basel’s EuroAirport, only a 15-minute drive from the city centre and well connected with busses, is served by a number of international airlines. Together with neighbouring Zurich Airport, it offers connections to all European airports and to more than 200 intercontinental destinations.

  • Rail

Basel's three railway stations offer excellent connections to all Swiss cities and the most important European metropolises. The Swiss Railway station (SBB), the French Railway station (SNCF) and the Badische Bahnhof, operated by German Railway (DB), are all conveniently located in the heart of the city.

  • Car

Basel is easy to reach by car, as the city lies between the European North-South and East-West motorway junctions. Basel’s hotels and its car parks offer plenty of parking.

Please note that a vignette (toll road sticker) is required to use the Swiss motorway network. You can purchase it for CHF 40 at all customs offices, post offices, petrol stations, garages, road traffic offices and from Basel Tourism.

Mittlere Brücke

Hardly another monument in the city of Basel has become such a symbol of the city as the Mittlere Brücke. Opened in 1226, it is one of the oldest Rhine crossings between Lake Constance and the North Sea.

Basler Münster

Together with the Mittlere Brücke, the Basler Münster (Cathedral) is probably the most famous landmark in Basel. With its red sandstone walls, colourful roof tiles and twin towers, no other building adorns the cityscape of Basel like the Cathedral.

City Hall

The City Hall is the seat of the Basel government and its parliament. In the midst of the Old Town, it is particularly eye­catching with its red facade, the characteristic tower and playful frescoes.

Tinguely Fountain

In 1977 Jean Tinguely created sculptural machines in a shallow fountain where the stage of the old city theatre company once stood, and in the process gifted Basel a famous new landmark.

The oldest zoo in Switzerland is open everyday throughout the year, providing visitors with an impressive insight into flora and fauna from around the world.
